Glendower is a special place, More like a Tudor Style country manor than a hotel. It has rooms and suites of teak floors, hand crafted polished mahogany furniture, and beds that are made for a good night’s rest. Even the quilts are filled with Silk. Each has its own on-suite bathroom. 32 inch Flat screen with Cable TV.
Although most of Glendower is new, it traces its origins to Sir Edward Barnes the pioneering Governor of Ceylon who built Barnes Hall ( now Grand Hotel) in 1828 and owned the land on which Glendower now stands. It first appeared in the deeds over 100 years ago, while Molesworth, next to it, began as a bungalow in the 1920’s.
Another link to the past is the venerable snooker table (137years Old) in the billiard room above the bar. Built in the 19th Century it was used by tea planters in colonial days. The 19th hole with its solid wood counter stools made from barrels, became our favourite “PUB IN THE HILLS”. Guess what! It has wide screen karaoke, Cable TV and Surround Sounds So your sure not miss out on any Cricket or Football. In the evenings we listened to, perhaps some of the best all time pub hits in the history of Music off greats such as Jimmy Hendricks, Eric Clapton, Jon Bonjovi and many more.
After days spent walking, riding and exploring, one relax gratefully each evening into the deep comfort of the Fabric sofa’s in the Glendower lounges. One lounge has a unique fire place hand carved from Granite.
